SINGAPORE (DAY 3)

March 17, 2023

Weather:  partly cloudy, high 88, fairly humid.  Kinda smoggy like much of SE Asia where shipping and refining are big business.

We ventured out on our own today.   Took a cable car from a station near our ship that crossed a channel to the island of Sendosa.   Sendosa is a huge amusement park with lodging, many rides, an aquarium,  several beaches, and lots of eateries.  There are several modes of transportation on the island including cable cars, a monorail, shuttles and lots of well marked trails.  We were quite impressed with everything about the park, cleanliness, fun things to do, prices, beauty.   Most Singaporeans live in high-rise apartments, so having easily accessible parks like this adds significantly to their quality of life.

Many would find Singapore a great place to live.   The government, although not truly democratic, establishes policies and rules that help their citizens enjoy relative prosperity and a good quality of life.   However, some would find their rules and enforcement too draconian--“Order versus Freedom.”

Now we are off to several ports on the Malay peninsula of Malaysia.

Our cable car ride across the channel to Sendosa Island

The cable car passed directly over our ship

High end condos & marina viewed from cable car.   You can barely make out our yacht (yeah, right)

Our first view of Sendosa Island from the cable car

                                               Water Park on Sendosa Island

One of several beaches on Sendosa Island
